Many open bites ( where front teeth do not overlap) are due to a over-eruption of the posterior teeth.
If it is corrected by closing the anterior teeth the result is not stable and it may contribute to a gummy smile.
In this type of open bite it is ideal to intrude ( move back into bone) the posterior teeth. This allows the lower jaw to close more-thereby
improving the open bite. In severe cases we may do this surgically. In certain cases we use temporary anchors or TADS. However,
Invisalign has shown to be effective as well in the right case. An experienced orthodontist can formulate a treatment plan that uses Invisalign
to properly treat certain open bite. Ask your ORTHODONTIST if you are a candidate.
